Sunrise, Sunset

I took these pictures on the same day earlier this month, the first a little after 7 AM and the last a little before 7 PM. The days are shortening quickly as we head into winter and morning frosts beckon the snow that is sure to fall before long. The skies reminded me of the lyrics from the song Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof.

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

From the rising of the sun to its going down
The Lord’s name is to be praised.
Psalm 113:3

  2. These are beautiful. I don't wake up early to greet the sun. Thanks

  3. That is one unusual and amazing sunrise. Looks like a golden Chinese character. Is there an airport in that vicinity?

  4. Yes, Gaelyn, those are contrails illuminated by the sun. We are 60 miles from Toronto's big airport and perhaps that is where the planes were coming and going from. Our local airport is small.

  5. Beautiful pics, Ruth! Really stunning. I think of that song too when I look at sunrises and sunsets, I don't know why.

  6. I no longer have to sacrifice to see a sunrise ... if I want to. ;)

  7. I love the photos--and the song. It always makes me teary--as I think of my children growing and all the nuances of a song that deals with the passage of life.

  8. What wonderful photographs of the sunrise and sunset. I agree with Donna, the words of the song makes me think how swiftly the years do flow.
