Grand River, Cambridge (Galt) OntarioThe past week has been marked by a succession of winter storms in many parts of North America. While our snowfalls have been far above normal, they have not been as heavy as those in other areas. My niece, Jaspenelle writes that Spokane Washington has had over 40 inches of snow this week with more on the way. We have had about 25 inches of new snow in the same time period.
We live near the city of Cambridge, Ontario. The historic district of Galt was built on the banks of the Grand River by settlers of Scottish descent. Fine original limestone buildings have been well maintained lending an old world charm to the view. The river was completely frozen here a couple of weeks ago but was open this week below the Parkhill Dam. The day was windy and cold but the sun would peek through the clouds from time to time.
Wherever you are gazing at the skies this Christmas Day,I wish for peace and goodwill toward ALL mankind.

ReplyDeleteI can only admire this wintry scene in all its glory as we in Scandinavia don't get blessed with white winters these days. At least not in the southern parts. It is a picture full of the charm of a real winter's day and a lovely spot by the river with the church spire in the background.
