Friday Flowers: Snowdrops

Snowdrops are winter flowers which bloom before March equinox in the northern hemisphere. I don't remember seeing them and this year I asked my Facebook friends for leads on finding some. We have had exceptionally warm weather in March and the snow was pretty much gone by last weekend. While we have enjoyed sunny days, the nights have not been cold enough for the maple trees and sap runs are very low this year. I hoped I was not too late in searching for these early flowers.

My friend Cheryl let me know that a house in her neighbourhood had Snowdrops in bloom in the borders. I stopped by yesterday and the flower beds at the front and side of the corner property were covered in dainty white blooms. I really have to remember to get some bulbs in the fall and plant them in my garden!

  1. Yes, I want to get some of these bulbs too. I just need to plant them where the snow will melt soonest.

  2. One of my absolute favorite bulbs, though I think that all the really early flowers bring me immense joy. Or a rather "finally, some Spring!" attitude.

Now that I think of it I rarely ever see them here. Lots of crocuses but never any snowdrops... I should plant some this Autumn.

  4. I put some in last fall, haven't seen them yet, hope they are there soon. Snowdrops are one of my favorites, I have an antique bone china tea set that my grandmother gave me as a little kid that has snowdrops on it. It is a treasured possession and all three of my daughters have had hot chocolate "tea parties" using it. I've had it for more than 50 years, I think my grandmother had it as a child too, she was born in 1900.

  5. I looked at that snow drop picture and thought ah, ha ... I know how she did that. So I went and did a picture of brown eyed susans up in the same manner and I'm so pleased with it I might just post it ... one day. Thanks for the inspiration to use Keynote.
