Inspired Aging!

I watch very little television but try not to miss The Mercer Report on Tuesday nights. Rick Mercer is always entertaining and his shows are on You Tube as well as the CBC website if I miss a program. This past week he featured Hazel McCallion, the 88 year old mayor of Mississauga which is the 6th largest city in Canada. She has served her community in this capacity for over 30 years and is an extraordinary woman. This six minute clip will inspire you and prove that getting old need not be a downhill ride. I need to be reminded of this as I see the worst of aging each day at the hospital.

  4. #6? Shocking. When I lived there, before it was Mississauga, nobody else lived there (exaggerating just a tad). I still think of it in those terms, even though part of it looked like downtown Toronto last time I was there.

I never really liked the Mercer report. It always seemed like the Daily Show's less funny brother. But this clip is great.

  10. Ruth,

I love Hazel. At 88 she can walk faster than I can. She's lead a great life, that's for sure. Wish we could get more government officials like her. She's awesome.

Thanks for sharing. I truly enjoyed this and so did hubby.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  13. Hazel is amazing! I love her spunk. And I'd certainly vote for her for mayor.

No debt and all that reserve? Wow.

  14. Isn't it always the case it's not so much what we do (so much gets unfinished or derailed), but who we inspire.

Mayor for 31 years...I wish she was our Prime Minister for 31 years. I would have voted her everytime. What a wonderful energy and attitude this "young" lady has. Mississauga residents...you are the lucky ones!
