Warring Weather Fronts

Spring and fall bring on the battles of the superpowers, winter and summer. Those in the centre of the continent feel the brunt of the competition in severe weather such as thunderstorms and tornadoes while those in coastal areas experience the hurricanes and tropical storms from the seas.
Fortunately, the skirmishes are usually not too fierce, but most days bring at least one contest of heat against cold. This week we have had warm days where the temperatures reached 25 C, but today it was 0 C with a white frost under clear skies. It is a time for jackets, gloves and a scraper for the car windows in the morning and short sleeves in the afternoon sun.
I love looking at the clouds formed by incoming weather fronts. These photos have been taken recently around our home, as the sky is offering spectacular new arrangements every hour. We know winter will win the current conflict in the grey month of November, and the arctic winds will dominate for a season, but spring will defer to summer’s warmth once again.

  1. Living in a place where clouds are rare I miss the days where you lay on your back and look for shapes and figures. Then there is the majesty of the mighty cumulus, and the airy wispyness of the cirrus clouds. Your images are beautiful.

  2. Thanks. We take the dog up "Mt Trashmore" after work in the late afternoons, and it is a great vantage point for pictures of the sky. You get few storms and little wind in your area, I believe...the kind of place Elijah lived when he got excited seeing a cloud the size of a man's hand!
