October is a feast for the eyes with extravagant rich colours, bountiful harvests and big fall skies. I have taken many pictures this month and in reviewing them noticed a few which portrayed a simple, peaceful beauty. I have matched them with some quotations about simplicity.
The best things in life are nearest:
Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet, duties at your hand,
the path of right just before you.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back
and realize they were the big things.
Robert BraultIf you have a garden and a library,
you have everything you need.
CiceroSimplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Leonardo da Vinci
You can't force simplicity;
but you can invite it in by finding as
much richness as possible in the few things at hand.
Simplicity doesn't mean meagerness
but rather a certain kind of richness,
the fullness that appears when
we stop stuffing the world with things.
Thomas Moore
I love those quotes and your photos as well Ruth. We all need to simplify. :c)
ReplyDeleteThank you for that Thomas Moore quote--it's perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen some lovely things to look upon--such richness, I see.
I love simplicity. I love finding beauty in the things around me, and your photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat milkweed pod photo is really nice--I have lots of those little fuzzies blowing around my yard right now.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and great quotes. We do indeed need to stop stuffing our world with things.
ReplyDeleteRuth,
ReplyDeleteThis post is awesome. I enjoyed reading the quotes and your photos are beautiful.
I had to play catch-up again. Your post about the election, women's vote and your grandmother was very enjoyable. The photo of her with her friends is a treasure.
I must take a trip to Burlington, but I doubt it will be this weekend. Still feeling a little under the weather.
Enjoy the sights, sounds and fragrances of autumn, my friend. It has been beautiful in our area.
Blessings,
Mary
I've seen the second half of the quote by Thomas Moore before and have always felt it true. Still, it's a struggle for me to stop stuffing my life with things.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and restful and the quotes are spot on. "'tis a gift to be simple, 'tis a gift to be free, 'tis a gift to come down where you ought to be."
ReplyDeleteLove that first photo! Great quotes.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking a lot about contentment lately ... and somewhat along the vein of all of your quotes!
Love the pictures, they are indeed peacful looking. The quotes along with the pictures paint a perfect scene.I agree ,we try to fill our lives with too many 'things'.
ReplyDeleteWith all that is happening on a global scale this post could not be more appropriate........beautiful quotes to match wonderful photography........
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I love the quotes by Cicero and Moore but trying to pick my favorite photo is really hard. The golden light on the brow of the hill captured me but then I saw the Amish buggy in front of the white cottage with the orange door. Striking! It would make a great painting! I love the last photo also and the one with the colored ivy hanging over the stone wall and...well, you can see, I really like them all!
ReplyDeleteIf it was only so simple: wherever I go there are vortexes of complexity trying to suck me in.
ReplyDeleteExcellent quotes - all so true. Your photos did them all good justice.
ReplyDeleteNice post, Ruth.
Very lovely scenes and quotes to match! Such peace in them. Your photographs are really wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. I think we all strive for more simplicity but society makes it very difficult. Like Robert says, "There are vortexes of complexity trying to suck us in."
ReplyDeleteThis is a very beautiful post with heart touching photos and thoughts.I have been taking pictures of Milkweed pods this week and of autumn vistas that radiate serenity and peacefulness. Your opening photo is one that can absorb feelings and soothe worries.
