Summer's Last Sunset

Autumnal Equinox Eve 2008

"Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light,
with skies a deeper blue, and nights that
become suddenly clear and chilled.
The season comes full with the first frost,
the disappearance of migrant birds,
and the harvesting of the season's last crops."

Glenn Wolff and Jerry Dennis

Early fall colour

Youth is like spring,
an over praised season more remarkable
for biting winds than genial breezes.
Autumn is the mellower season,
and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.

Samuel Butler

  1. Ruth,

What beautiful photos. I really enjoyed them and the quotes. I love the changing of the seasons.

The apple festival was fun and I will make a note of the festival later this month. It sounds like a good time as well.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  2. Nice capture on the sunset.
Autumn is my favorite season. The changing of the leaves to the bright reds, yellows and oranges is breathless. The scrunging sound of the leaves under my feet as I walk and the days are perfect temperature wise. For me, autumn just doesn't last long enough.

  4. Beautiful pictures. It was a good idea to document the last Summer sunset and it was quite beautiful. The poems were spot on, too. I am so much more comfortable in the autumn--it seems the spinning that is in my head in the summer, goes away and peaceful fall begins.

  6. Lovely last sunset. It's so hard to believe fall is actually here. It's been a long, hot, and dry summer and we are ready for fall.

What a beautiful blog! I really miss the changing seasons after living in the tropics on both sides of the equator for over 38 years.
That's why we love to visit in the fall

  10. Beautiful pictures and quotes! After several cool, wonderful weeks, its gotten warmer here - mid 80's. Even so, we have a couple trees in the area that have changed to red and begun dropping their leaves.

  11. Mary- Thanks...It is the perfect time of year for colourful pictures. I think I should get down to Princess Point this month...

Cheryl D- I enjoy fall weather better than spring weather. October is pretty much a perfect month. Last year is lasted long, but then we paid with an even longer winter.

RW- We are fortunate in the east to see the reds of the maples in the fall. Buffalo is just a stone's throw from here!

Beth- thanks...it was not the most spectacular sunset, but a significant one at the end of a beautiful day.

Jayne- Hope you enjoy fall temps soon too.

NCMW- Hard to believe your summer stayed hot and dry when so many places had so much rain.

Cheryl- I am looking forward to seeing how your seasons change "across the pond".

Mom- The change of seasons here is invigorating and inspiring, especially autumn. You should come...

dsd- Thanks for visiting and commenting. Your blog is so intriguing!!

Julie- I'll take mid-sixties over mid-eighties especially when they come with cool nights. But I would prefer your winter.

  12. Excuse me, but you mentioned something about a blog reader on one of your comments. Could you elaborate on what that is and how I can get one? Thanks.
