Autumn Skies

October skies are the battleground of weather fronts.
Cold wars with Warm for seasonal supremacy.
Frosty night air settles over the summer-warmed earth and water.

Dawn mists rise over river valleys and lakes.
Morning stillness gives way to afternoon winds.
Billowing clouds rise from the Great Lakes
racing west to east across the sky.

In one moment grey clouds cover the sky,
then the sun breaks through brightly.
Rain and snow showers drop quickly and leave hurriedly
as they are pushed along by gusty winds.

Beauty, power, changing seasons...
Autumn

  2. Beautiful photos, wonderful prose! Your first photo of a bridge reminds of the old railroad bridge which crosses the Saint John river in Fredericton.

  4. RW- I cannot stop looking up this month. The skies are always changing. The last two pictures were taken along the Niagara escarpment near Hamilton this week.

Ann- The first two photos are taken at the road bridge across the river at the hospital. They were taken last Friday on my way into work. (It is a wonder I went to work that day!)

    Jayne- Thanks!

The pictures are beautiful! Even though winter is brewing in the air...the pictures look calm and peaceful. There was (is) a blanket of snow on the ground this morning and I'm sure that there will not be to many "Autumn Skies" left to enjoy as winter is coming. Time to dig out the hat and mitts!

    Beautiful post, as always!

  6. The skies are stunning this time of year. I took a guided bird trip this time last year and came home with just a few bird pix and MANY sky pix.

  9. Ruth,

Beautiful post! The photos are awesome. The beauty of the earth leaves me breathless at times.

We only got a dusting of snow overnight. There was a little on the street and vehicles last night around 1 am. This morning it was gone. I'm thankful it passed us by. Did you take photos?

Have a wonderful day, my friend.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  15. Cheryl- Yes, winter greyness and dark days are coming where those who work indoors will barely see any light. I am trying to store up!

Lynne- You get plenty of E-W and N-S weather action in MN. I hope to see prairie skies soon.

Mary- We still have yesterday's snow on the ground, but it should melt today.
