One of these things is not like the others...

I have watched hundreds, maybe even a thousand episodes of Sesame Street with our children. Some of the jingles, games and songs will stay in my mind forever. Who knows this one?

One of these things is not like the others,

One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others

By the time I finish my song?

Today is Thanksgiving Day, a day when you wear your winter coat and gloves for the early morning Oktoberfest Parade. After the parade, you drop into Tim Hortons for a hot drink.

In the afternoon, the sun has warmed things enough that you can go out with a light jacket and walk through the crisp leaves. The house is warmed with the smell of roasted turkey and pumpkin pie.

Not today!

It was a record high 31 C (88 F) and the humidex was near 40 C. Our air conditioner has been running since Friday and we went to Tim Hortons for an iced tea. I was birding with someone special (more on that later) and we came off the trails hot and dehydrated. On the way home I saw this at the end of our street. An inflatable water slide in October? No way!

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

  2. Oh Ruth, we had the same record-breaking hot weather. In the spirit of thanksgiving though, I'm very thank for central air conditioning!

  3. Ruth, I'm glad you had a warm Thanksiving. It is so ironic that you and Julie's husband, Bill of the Birds, (on my sidebar) posted the same Sesame Street song within the week! He included he tune.

I loved Sesame Street as much as my daughter did :o)

Thank the heavens for AC. It's a record breaker HOT today and tomorrow. 93.

  6. Karen & Mike- Last fall was cool and rainy, far too rainy. I guess perfect fall weather can be elusive.

Ruthie- Yes, central air was a sleep-saver for sure. I have never run it in October though!

Mary- I haven't read Bill of the Birds blog. He has children too and must know the Sesame Street songs too.

Monarch- The cooler air really started to come in by Tuesday afternoon. Thank goodness!

Peggy- Thanks. We have had some nice colour in spite of the drought.

  7. Hi Ruth - it will turn cool soon enough. Amazingly, while quite a few places have been showing out of season warm temps, this part of California has cooled down. At least the nights are getting quite chilly, and the days eventually warm up to the low to mid 70s (F).
