Postcard #8 ...end of the journey

Went to the beach at Malibu this morning and enjoyed the warm sun and fresh ocean breezes. This lagoon was north of the pier and many birds were there. I took a lot of pictures but will have to check my Sibley guide at home to identify some of them. Western birds are familiar but just a little different than ours in the northeast of the continent. This is a beautiful spot, out of the smog and congestion of the big city.
Goodbye California...

  1. What a great place to walk in the sand and view the birds.

  2. That's a beautiful beach! Looking forward to seeing your discoveries!

Btw, you have to stop by my blog today and check out the birdwatching ride we did on my birthday. It's up today! We were so lucky because there were birds everywhere that day, and they didn't mind our presence either.

  3. Boy, one can easily see why fires and mud slides pose such a huge risk to those homes perched on the hillsides. Beautiful view of the beach!

  4. I, too, am a bit behind on my reading. Hmmm--I have been distracted.
Anyway, love the postcard series. I think I would have stayed in SF the whole time. And the coast pics make me want to go there.
I did laugh at your observation of seeing everyone living and dead in LA.

  7. Ruth, I thoroughly enjoyed your postcards of your California trip/visit. I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation and I'm extremely glad that you had great weather, and saw all the high points of our beautiful state. I had to chuckle that LA was probably the least liked of the trip. Truthfully, it's probably a world (or state) all its own. Of course, I'm delighted that one of your favorite "stops" is also mine. And I'm fortunate to live less than two hours drive away -- the Monterey/Big Sur area. Something tells me you didn't get to see any condors, though. That's OK; I'm still hoping to see some condors one of these days.

  8. Mary, I saw a Condor at close range at the Grand Canyon and at least one other along the coast of California just past Big Sur. You do live in a very beautiful area and I hope to return there again.
