First Snow Fall

The sun that dim November day
Had failed to kiss the clouds away
From quiet Nature's furrowed face,
Where autumn tears had left their trace.

And, by and by, on fields of brown
The feathered flakes came floating down
From Heaven to this world of ours,
Like spirits of departed flowers.

And fast and faster through the night,
Till Morn arose on meadows white,
And o'er the landscape lightly stepped
Where tired Nature, smiling, slept.

Albert Bigelow Paine

These shots were taken in the same park where I took pictures for the Pooh Sticks post last week. What a difference a few days can make!

We got lucky today and just missed being snowed on! I guess snow has to arrive sometime!

  4. The snow really does change the view.

I just read "Pooh Sticks". I share your love with Winnie the Pooh. There's a good chance I still remember the dialogue from the Adventures movie. I always loved Eeyore and Tigger the best :o)

  5. Ruth,

Like the photos I posted, these are much different from those of a few days ago. Old Man Winter has arrived.

Thanks for commenting on my post. I certainly enjoyed seeing what it's like a little further north of here.

  6. You discover the most beautiful poems. I have always loved them and still remember the many lines I had to memorize years ago in Public and High School. Beautiful poetry once memorized stays with you forever.

  8. Jayne- I pictured the pretty side of winter. The roads were something else! Don't envy us.

Jean- I hope it melts soon as there is a lot of ice under the snow. I like pictures of park benches too.

Monarch- Yes, this is one storm that passed north of you, but you have already had one snowfall already I think.

Mary- I need an excuse to watch cartoons again.

Mary from ON- You got a light dusting this time, but as you said in your post, more is coming to your area.

Mom- This poem was so appropriate. I wish I could write poems, but it takes me a lot of time to do even a Haiku.

AC- Yes, I watched the storm track and thought your area would get more than we did. You already had snow too. But Ottawa has a reputation to maintain and I hope your winter carnival is more wintery this year.
