Time to book that vacation?

My last few posts have been rather dreary as we stumble through the mid-winter blahs in the north. I scraped ice off my windows in the dark this morning and drove on icy roads into work, and dreamt of sun and warmth and birds and flowers. No wonder Canadian “Snowbirds” leave in droves for Florida, Arizona and other warm locations at this time of year.

So here are a couple of pictures my dad took in their yard in western Mexico. I am guessing this lovely bird is perhaps a Scott’s Oriole. (KGMom looked it up and it is a Bullock's Oriole)

My young cousin, Samuel is in Arizona for several weeks. Yesterday he posted some excellent pictures he took of another southern bird.

Now I need to go and check out Expedia…

  1. I realized yesterday at 4:30 pm that it wasn't dark yet! (And the peasants rejoiced!)

  2. To see orioles and hummingbirds in January? That would be reason enough to book a vacation for me too! Thanks for sharing those sunny pictures, Ruth.

  3. I'd fall over if I saw birds so colorful and exotic at my feeders.

Coming from the land of sun, I understand your feeling... We've been under the clouds for a few days and it's getting old. I remember there were 6 weeks in Delaware when we didn't see one ray of sunlight. Ughhh.

    Book that vacation!

  5. Wow--what a lovely bird. That brilliant yellow. Amazing that it comes around in winter.
On vacations--I saw my first robin (actually robins) yesterday. My guess is they are wintering here. I thought--fly off somewhere south to warmth!

  6. I am not a birder--but I do research. Are you sure it's a Scott's oriole.
How about a Bullock's oriole. Markings on wing and tail seem to fit better with a Bullock's.

  11. Scott's, Bullock's, whatever. If the birds are yellow, I need a one-way ticket to that destination!
